Fans told the ECHO they arrived at Liverpool John Lennon Airport but were turned away after their flight was cancelled. WorldChoice Sports worked to get fans on other flights and also brokered additional aircraft.

But a number of fans were unable to board a flight and were told to go home. WorldChoice Sports said on May 28 it would be refunding fans in full during the coming days.

A spokesperson for the tour operator told the ECHO today fans whose flights were cancelled "have all had their refunds processed". They said around 80 passengers had their flight cancelled.

The spokesperson added: "We have a lot of experience in chartering aircraft for finals for a number of football clubs. We have taken big numbers to all Liverpool Football Club finals since 2001.

"I would like to apologise again for any difficulty or inconvenience this may have caused to any of our customers."
