Liverpool fans have been reacting to Conor McGregor saying he “would love” to buy the club.
Fenway Sports Group released a statement on Monday confirming they are open to major investment into the club. This has led to increased speculation that they have “put Liverpool up for sale”.
FSG have owned the club for 12 years, after completing a £300million takeover from Tom Hicks and George Gillett in October 2010. Influential American finance outlet Forbes currently value the club in the region of £3.5billion.

Replying to a Twitter user, who had suggested that he ‘buy’ Liverpool, McGregor has expressed his desire to complete a purchase of the club. The 34-year-old, who grew up near Dublin in Ireland, is well known to be a Manchester United fan.
McGregor wrote: “I would love it! I requested my information on this, yes.
“Soon as I heard. What a turn of events! What a club!”
This has led to plenty of Liverpool fans having their say on the prospect of McGregor being the owner of Liverpool, or even a potential investor or shareholder.
One fan wrote: “I may as well throw my hat in the ring.....do they take Klarna.” While another said: “I’m sure he’s rich. Doubt he’s three billion-plus rich.”
Another fan added: “I thought April fools day was April 1st.” And one more fan said: “How come a lad worth £20mill can buy a club worth £4billion. He wouldn't be able to afford the wages alone.”
