Liverpool fans question Jamie Carragher's 'weird' man of the match decision in Newcastle win

Liverpool fans have questioned Jamie Carragher’s selection for the man of the match award in the win over Newcastle United.

The Reds claimed a 2-0 victory in the Premier League clash at St James’ Park. First half goals from Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo secured the precious three points for Liverpool.

Jurgen Klopp’s side played the majority of the game with an extra player advantage, after Nick Pope was sent off for Newcastle. However, Alisson Becker was still forced to make several important saves for Liverpool.

Allan Saint-Maximin caused plenty of problems for Liverpool, but did not find the back of the net. Despite this, Carragher handed the Newcastle forward the man of the match award ahead of Alisson.

This decision has been questioned by sections of Liverpool fans on social media. Here is a look at what they had to say.

Mark: ”I can only remember once in the 2nd half that Saint Maximin touched the ball yet Carragher makes him MOTM.”

Amy: “How did Saint-Maximin get MOTM.”

Jordan: "Carra was banging on all game about how good Alisson was then he gives Saint-Maximin MOTM.”

Anfield Buzz: "Yes he played well, but Alisson made at least four big saves today. Should’ve been player of the match.”

CR: "Yous watched them lose 2-0 and Alisson save us over and over but picked ASM??”

George: "Such a weird decision.”

Hermie: “He was on the losing team. Alisson Becker made three great saves.”
