Liverpool FC fans have been given a serious warning ahead of their opening Champions League group stage match with Napoli.
The Reds are set to play Napoli on Wednesday night to open their European campaign but the club has issued a stark warning to fans who are headed to Italy. A post on the Liverpool FC Help Twitter account has published a very serious warning about the dangers fans are putting themselves in heading to the country.
Today, the club said supporters should stay in their hotels to eat and drink and are "strongly advised" to avoid wearing team colours while travelling. One of two posts said: "Supporters arriving in Naples prior to matchday should remain in their respective hotel to drink and eat.

"You are strongly advised not to wear team colours when travelling."
In another tweet, posted shortly after, the club also said that supporters should avoid a number of areas in the city, including the city centre and isolated areas away from the city's port. The warning said: "Fans should not congregate in public areas and should avoid becoming isolated in areas away from the port area of the city.
"We strongly recommend you avoid the city centre. If you chose to visit, please beware that you may be targeted for theft, robbery, or assault."
The warning comes three years after Liverpool fans were attacked during their last trip to Naples during the Champions League group stage in September 2019. The attacks saw fans injured after being targeted with belts and glass bottles by men on scooters just hours before the match.
