Liverpool fans face Wembley change ahead of Chelsea Carabao Cup final

Liverpool supporters heading to Wembley for Sunday's Carabao Cup final will find security measures have been ramped up for the showpiece clash against Chelsea.

Police and stewarding numbers have been increased for the match, which is the first major final to be played at the national stadium since crowd trouble marred the Euro 2020 final last July between England and Italy.

A subsequent report into the incidents severely criticised the operation carried out by the Football Association, the Metropolitan Police and Brent Council.

With authorities keen to avoid a repeat, a new series of measures have been introduced aimed at avoiding any trouble and being better equipped to deal with any potential flashpoints involving supporters.

There will be a significant increase in the number of enforcement officers on Olympic Way and the surrounding area to ensure the compliance of a "No Drinking Zone" that has been introduced by Brent Council to stop the consumption of alcohol in non-licensed areas around the stadium.

The ban on street drinking in public will be enforced by a team of officers from Brent Council, Wembley National Stadium, Wembley Park, the Metropolitan Police Service, Transport for London and the British Transport Police, with fans being required to hand over their alcoholic drinks or face a £100 fine.

Supporters attending the match will also encounter an enhanced security presence outside each of the entry points at Wembley, with checks being carried out to deter anybody without a ticket from approaching the turnstiles, which will open at 2.30pm - two hours before kick-off.

The stadium has also doubled the amount of search dogs and handlers patrolling the areas approaching Wembley, while there will also be a notable increase in police and stewarding numbers inside the stadium.

Liverpool fans wanting more information on the match are advised to visit the official club website.
