Liverpool 'fail' to land free agent as Roberto Firmino emerges as target

On Monday, July 4, Liverpool will return to the AXA Training Centre as they get their preparations for the new season underway.

Summer signings Calvin Ramsay and Fabio Carvalho will link up with their new teammates at the start of the week, while Darwin Nunez will report to training later in the week after receiving an extended break for his international commitments over the summer.

But according to the transfer gossip columns, the trio may not be the only new faces arriving at Anfield this summer.

Liverpool are reportedly one of a number of clubs that have held talks with PSV Eindhoven player Cody Gakpo.

The Daily Mail

What?

The Daily Mail are reporting that Juventus are interested in signing Liverpool forward Roberto Firmino this summer.

Firmino, 30, has just 12 months remaining on his current Anfield deal and no decision appears to have been made on where his long-term future at the club lies.

According to the report, the Serie A side believe a fee of just £20m could tempt Liverpool to part ways with the Brazilian who has been a stalwart to Jurgen Klopp's side since he took over the Anfield reigns in October 2015.

Who?

Ousmane Dembele

Where?

The Daily Mail

What?

Liverpool could see their attempt to prise current free-agent Ousmane Dembele away from Barcelona fail after the player and the club edged closer to a new contract agreement, according to reports.

The Frenchman's contract with the La Liga giants expired on June 30 and the ongoing financial problems at the Camp Nou has meant Barcelona have been unable to tie the winger down to a new deal.

However, The Daily Mail, who had previously reported on Liverpool's interest, claims Dembele has agreed to take a pay cut in order to re-sign for Barcelona following a meeting between all parties over the weekend.

Liverpool's reported interest in the former Borussia Dortmund man dates back to his time with Stade Rennais in 2017.
