Liverpool dressing room's initial reaction to Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai

Two members of Liverpool's dressing room have revealed the rest of the squad are delighted to have seen Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai arrive at Anfield.

The Reds made Mac Allister their first signing of the summer, bringing the Argentine in from Premier League rivals Brighton. The World Cup winner was soon followed by Hungary captain Szoboszlai, who joined from RB Leipzig.

The addition of the duo marks a major boost to Jurgen Klopp's midfield options, with the German overhauling that department this summer. And it appears the moves for Mac Allister and Szoboszlai have gone down well with their new team-mates.

The pair arrived at their new club for the first time earlier this week for the start of pre-season training. And Reds star Cody Gakpo has made it clear that the new signings will be welcomed with open arms.

“Very pleased [they are here]. I think everybody knows that they are very good players and I’m really looking forward to playing with them together,” the forward told Liverpool's club website.

“I think first of all it’s nice to see everybody after a short break. I think everybody is excited to go again and we want to show everybody what we’ve got. I think everybody has the same mindset at the moment.

"We really want to achieve something this year again. That’s the target and we will train hard for that. We ended, I think, the campaign pretty good with a nice run of winning games, and I hope we start there again and do that for the whole season."

The importance of bringing in the pair so early in the transfer window has also not been lost on Klopp's squad. Veteran midfielder Fabinho welcomed their arrival, after the departures of several key squad players.

“We lost, I think, three midfield players that were really important for us in the last maybe five, six years. It’s good to bring some good players in that position because we will need [them],” the Brazilian said.

“In the way we play, the intensity we play, we always need not just three or four but maybe six players in this position. So yes, it’s good to have these two players with us now. We played against them already, so we know how good they are.

"It’s good to have them in the team. Football is like this. Sometimes we will lose some very good friends. We have to focus on the players that we have now. At the moment, Mac Allister and Szoboszlai have arrived.

“We just hope that they will be ready to be with us. We will help them in the adaptation and hope they will be ready and get the ideas of the team as quick as possible.”
