Liverpool’s "doll whisperer" is set to appear on our screens as he hopes to find love.
Peter Gill, a fashion designer originally from Hunts Cross and the owner of Scouse Dolls, is partaking in ITV’s Dress to Impress. The dating game show sees three fashion-savvy competitors take part in a “shopping showdown” to win a blind date with a “style-conscious singleton”. Whichever shopper chooses the outfit the person looking for love likes the most wins a date with them.
In an upcoming episode, viewers will watch the 31-year-old be one of those shoppers and have "help" throughout the experience from his dolls, which he uses as part of his business. Peter’s idea of creating a company around the use of Barbie-like figures came about in lockdown when he couldn’t clothe real-life models because of COVID restrictions. Now, he uses his dolls to create artwork and bespoke designs for weddings and hen parties, crafting small dolls to look like their party hosts.

Speaking more about his experience on the show, Peter told the ECHO : “It was very tiring but really exciting and fun. I thoroughly enjoyed the whole process and the producers were fantastic."
The former Liverpool John Moores university student, who calls himself a "doll whisperer", auditioned during the first lockdown but it was only at the start of this year he got a phone call to see if he was still interested in appearing on the show. Still single, Peter agreed but had to re-audition with a more up-to-date application.
The fashion graduate said: “They asked me to complete a questionnaire about myself and do an audition video talking about myself. I had to show some of my favourite clothes and talk about my style which is very eclectic and bohemian. I've become more refined as I’ve gotten older and I'm highly influenced by movies and music artists like David Bowie and Elvis Presley. I feel my unique style and my expertise in fashion really did help when I was picking outfits.”
Peter, who has been single for a year now, has had two relationships before but for different reasons they didn’t work out. Appearing on the show he was looking for someone “kind, caring, loving and someone who we can accept each other fully”.
His introduction to the show was first filmed in April at his home in Aigburth. It was here he showed his “Scouse doll family” who all live in his “Scouse doll drawer.” The production crew then filmed Peter for his exterior shots, taking pictures of his dolls on Lark Lane and in Sefton Park.
The remainder of the show was filmed in Manchester where Peter met his competition - a dance teacher from Bicester and a music artist from London. All three were shown who their potential date was to be - a dancer from London - before being sent off to Manchester’s Arndale Centre to complete their task.
The show will be on ITV2 at 8 pm on October, Monday 24.
