Liverpool have reportedly decided against appointing Paul Mitchell as their new sporting director with Julian Ward set to leave the club in the summer.
It came as a surprise to all at Anfield when Ward announced his intention to leave back in November and the hunt for someone to come in and fill that role is well underway.
The Englishman has a good reputation from within transfer circle of the game and has previously attracted strong interest from the Premier League.

After a successful time as Head of Recruitment and Development by Bundesliga club RB Leipzig, Mitchell was strongly linked with a move to Manchester United in 2019 before being named as Monaco sporting director in June 2020.
Sam Wallace of the Telegraph wrote: "The question being asked is what Klopp might do to rebuild the team that enjoyed such success between 2017 and 2022, and more pertinently for Liverpool’s owners Fenway Sports Group, where the money comes from to do it.
"The club is without a sporting director having seen Michael Edwards’ complete his year’s notice last season, and then his successor Julian Ward quit six months later. They have decided against appointing Paul Mitchell, who holds a similar role at Monaco and has worked at Southampton and Tottenham Hotspur among others."
Liverpool are also linked with Eintracht Frankfurt sporting director Markus Krosche.
