Diogo Jota helps create blended and balanced attack
Jake Bayliss - Liverpool find themselves in a luxurious position when there can be an intense debate over what their strongest forward line could be. Jurgen Klopp has five top quality options to call upon - and even more in reserve - as the Reds continue their attempt at winning an unprecedented quadruple this term.
However, though Luis Diaz’s arrival has certainly added another dimension to the Liverpool squad, the Colombian would not be in my line-up if the Champions League final was tomorrow. Instead, Diogo Jota gets the nod ahead of Diaz, whose striker’s instincts have already seen him reach 20 goals this season and oust Roberto Firmino from Liverpool’s previously immovable front three in the process.
Jota’s inclusion would then allow Sadio Mane to return to the left flank, where he has consistently delivered across his time on Merseyside. Completing the attacking trio, Mohamed Salah holds a strong claim to be named the best player in the world.
Whether against Manchester City or Real Madrid, this perfectly blended and balanced attack would find a way past any defence. Although the Liverpool boss can almost be assured of goals, whoever he picks.
Who would you choose to be Liverpool's front three if the Champions League final was tonight? Let us know in the comments below...
Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, as it stands, are the two obvious choices
Tom Cavilla - Deciding who should be Liverpool’s starting front three right now is no simple task. Such is the quality of this current side, Jurgen Klopp finds himself in a favourable position whereby he is able to take his pick from five world-class talents.
Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, as it stands, are the two obvious choices when considering who forms part of the attacking front three, leaving one final position up for grabs. Diogo Jota, Luis Diaz and Roberto Firmino each bring different qualities to the team and have justified on countless occasions the danger they are capable of causing to opposition sides.
It could be argued Firmino is now at the stage where he cannot be guaranteed first-team minutes on a consistent basis and has a greater impact when deployed from the bench.
Jota has been a revelation since joining the club and is difficult to overlook, but there is something unique about Diaz that is very much reminiscent of Luis Suarez. Somewhat of a street fighter on the pitch, the Colombian has exceeded all expectations and strikes fear into opponents.
If Liverpool are to reach the Champions League final, their likely opponents will be Manchester City. The recent FA Cup showdown between the sides was the evidence of the damage Diaz can cause, and I would back the ex-Porto man to cause City further problems if selected from the off.
