Liverpool have made a number of high-profile signings over the past few years. From Mohamed Salah to Virgil van Dijk to Alisson Becker to Darwin Nunez, the Reds have made a series of statements in the transfer market.
In addition to those expensive moves, the club have demonstrated a lesser known tendency to acquire youthful prospects from British shores. Liverpool tend to keep tabs on the brightest talents who can be signed for less than their true worth.
Harvey Elliott moved to Merseyside in the summer of 2019, having been poached from Fulham. Jurgen Klopp got him on a free transfer, with the Reds ordered to pay a minor compensation fee further down the line.

He's now 19 years-old and based on his performances in pre-season, he appears primed to contribute on the pitch this season. Crucially, Elliott has homegrown status attached to his profile, which is typically very valuable.
Fabio Carvalho made the same move to Anfield this summer. With his contract due to expire at the end of the campaign, Liverpool agreed to pay Fulham around £4m to secure his signature.
Much like Elliott, Carvalho is homegrown and every now and then, players with that status - who also possess elite potential - become available in the transfer market, largely due to expiring contracts.
Danny Ings and Dominic Solanke are two further examples of English starlets who Liverpool snapped up because of their contract situations. Perhaps the latest player to follow the theme is Aston Villa's Carney Chukwuemeka, who has a contract which is scheduled to expire next summer.
Still just 18 years-old, he's regarded as one of the brightest prospects in the country and the Reds have been tracking him according to reports. Villa have attempted to keep him at the club by offering him a number of new deals. Steven Gerrard has tried to showcase his plans for him by presenting him with first-team minutes in the Premier League.
However, despite Gerrard's best efforts, it seems Chukwuemeka is intent on leaving having rejected another contract offer, which opens up the possibility of a move this summer considering Villa are reluctant to lose him for free.
Liverpool's summer business is done according to reports, at least when it comes to incomings, but with Chukwuemeka said to be available for around £20m, an offer could be worth considering.
He stands around 6ft tall, he's athletic and mobile, and he's predominately been deployed as a central midfielder at Villa Park, which is an area that Klopp is hoping to strengthen in the near future.
Chukwuemeka wouldn't arrive as a starter but much like Elliott and Carvalho, he could be attained because of his homegrown status and potential to reach the top, as well as his reduced value.
Arsenal, Newcastle United, Barcelona, Borussia Dortmund and others are said to be interested in him which offers an insight into his level, but Liverpool could still join the party.
