Jurgen Klopp promise about to become reality
It was back in July 2020 when Curtis Jones celebrated signing a new deal with Liverpool by scoring his first Premier League goal.
"We’ll have a lot of fun with him," Jurgen Klopp promised after the midfielder netted from the bench in a 2-0 Anfield win. "That’s Curtis in a nutshell!"
That was only the ninth senior appearance of the embryonic Reds career of Jones, who was still awaiting his first top-flight start despite his memorable FA Cup winner against Everton earlier in the year. And while there have been impressive moments in his 72 appearances since, the 21-year-old has, for a variety of reasons, not quite yet made the leap from Academy starlet to fully-fledged first-team regular.

Hence the somewhat muted reaction to the player's undoubted progress with Liverpool being rewarded with a new deal last week as the Reds continue their policy to retain and renew Klopp's squad.
Jones has at times been a victim of circumstance. He became a more regular starter during the second quarter of the 2020/21 season when Liverpool won through their Champions League group - Jones sealing their knockout stage place with the only goal at home to Ajax - and forced their way to the top of the table at Christmas.
But the youngster then saw confidence knocked during Liverpool's dreadful New Year run and was a bit-part player in the race for the line to secure Champions League football. A concussion then saw him miss the start of the next campaign, and after being restored to the starting line-up and impressing with a superb European performance at Porto, he was then sidelined by a freak eye injury for more than two months.

Liverpool could make millions thanks to former players at World Cup
With the January transfer window set to open following the conclusion of the 2022 World Cup, a number of players representing their nations could be the subject of interest come the turn of the year if they impress in Qatar.
After all, Liverpool continue to be linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham, though it remains to be seen if they will be priced out of a move for their known target with it often speculated what impact the tournament could have on his would-be transfer fee when the time comes. A first international goal in England’s World Cup opener against Iran will have only added to his already elite pedigree.
But while the England international’s short-term future remains in limbo as a result, Liverpool could be about to benefit if a number of their former players impress in Qatar and earn a transfer off the back of their winter performances, courtesy of their well-documented sell-on clauses in outgoing transfer deals.
After Sadio Mane was forced to withdraw from the Senegal squad for the World Cup because of injury, Reds fans will recognise as many as 15 of their former players representing their countries in Qatar.
