Liverpool confirm Darwin Nunez plans for Manchester United friendly

Liverpool have summer signings Darwin Nunez and Fabio Carvalho will be involved in today’s friendly with Manchester United in Bangkok.

It is the first match of pre-season for both clubs, who had contrasting campaigns last season. United’s dismal term was lightened somewhat by Erik ten Hag’s May appointment and he has since set about a squad revamp.

Replenishing the midfield is his priority but he is also after an attacker, especially in light of Cristiano Ronaldo’s exit wish. The club had been chasing Nunez for a number of weeks before Liverpool swooped in the lure the 34-goal striker in a club record £85m transfer from Benfica last month.

He is set to be named on the teamsheet for Liverpool against United ahead of the 2pm kick-off. He will be joined by new Reds signing Carvalho with Virgil van Dijk, Mo Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold also set to feature.

Diogo Jota sits out the encounter as he recovers from a hamstring issue. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp told club media : “The plan for United is to use all of our players, except a couple maybe.

“We will make plenty of changes too, of course, throughout the game. We will need to. It means Darwin will be in the squad and Fabio will play for us for the first time and I’m sure our supporters will be pleased about that.

“But the game is an important one in our preparations, so we will give it a try and any game against United is always a good one.”
