Liverpool are reportedly in the running to sign PSV forward Cody Gakpo, whose excellent start to the 2022/23 season has continued at the World Cup.
The 23-year-old was strongly linked with a move to Manchester United during the summer transfer window but remained put at his current employers, for whom he has scored 13 goals and registered 17 assists in just 24 games in all competitions.
Also leading by example on the international stage, Gakpo has scored in both of the Netherlands' games at the current World Cup - outscored only by Enner Valencia and Kylian Mbappe.

Speculation is only set to continue surrounding the future of the talented attacker, who repeated his current form last term with 36 goal contributions for PSV. A latest update on Gakpo has suggested the player is 'gone' and that his club have no chance of keeping him due to his goalscoring exploits.
Indeed, former Dutch footballer turned TV pundit Hans Kraay Jr. told ESPN Liverpool are also now in the running for his services due to an 'admiration' shown by assistant manager Pep Lijnders.
Discussing the situation, he said: "Gakpo is gone. PSV are not going to keep him, and cannot keep him anymore. Gakpo will soon be playing in the Premier League. The chance that it will be Manchester United is now a lot higher again, because Cristiano Ronaldo has left. They have even more money available.
"At Liverpool, assistant Pepijn Lijnders is charmed by him, so he is chasing Jurgen Klopp. Yes, Gakpo is gone.”
