Liverpool Champions League semi-final dates confirmed as Jurgen Klopp fear realised

Liverpool have discovered the dates of their Champions League semi-final against Villarreal - with Jurgen Klopp's fixture fear having been realised.

The Reds won through to a last four date against the Spanish side by beating Benfica 6-4 on aggregate following a 3-3 draw at Anfield in their quarter-final second leg on Wednesday night.

Liverpool will now entertain Villarreal in the first leg on Wednesday, April 27 before travelling to Spain for the return game on Tuesday, May 3. Both games will kick-off at 8pm.

The other semi-final sees Manchester City host Real Madrid on Tuesday, April 26 with the reverse fixture taking place on Wednesday, May 4.

Klopp was already unhappy at the scheduling of the Premier League visit to Newcastle United, which falls between the two semi-final games and kicks off at 12.30pm on Saturday, April 30.

And now the Reds will have less than 63 hours between the first game against Villarreal and walking out at St James' Park as they look to maintain their hopes of regaining the Premier League title.

Klopp had said earlier this week of the Newcastle fixture: “All these things; the schedule and how people use the fame at the moment (thinking) 'Liverpool is hot at the moment'. They couldn't care less. I know I am angry, but it's just not okay.

"If we find another league in the world and another broadcaster who thinks to put one team who is in the semi-final at a 12.30 kick-off on a Saturday, it is like a little stick between the legs. It is like what!? What are you doing!? Why would you do that? It’s because nobody cares."
