The Red Devils rearguard was broken deep into additional time at the end of the second-half as the Reds-linked midfielder sent David de Gea the wrong way. Roberto De Zerbi's side were handed a penalty after an on-field review from Andre Marriner following a handball from Luke Shaw.
United are in fourth and are just four points ahead of Liverpool with a game in hand. Brighton are in sixth and four points behind the Reds, with two games in hand.
