Liverpool businesswoman hosts event to help families this Christmas

A well known Liverpool businesswoman has organised an event to provide free Christmas presents to families affected by the cost of living crisis.

Children can choose toys, selections boxes, clothes and other Christmas presents for free this Saturday at Anfield's famous Sandon Complex. Kate Stewart told the ECHO that Liverpool's Dockers in the Community and donations from across the city had helped to pay for the community event.

The mum-of-four said: "So the Liverpool Dockers have chipped in £500 to pay for all the selection boxes. We have a room full of toys, clothes and other bits which families can pick up for free. No money will change hands on the day. And we have Santa in the room from noon to 3pm."

Kate, who owns the Sandon, said that she was wanted to do something to help families cope with Christmas due to the cost of living crisis. She said: "I know of so many families who have are understandably struggling with the cost of living. It has been such a tough year and I have cut out all the unnecessary spending in my own life. All the luxuries have gone."

Kate, an award winning businesswoman, said that she thought some people in the city could do more to help at this time of year. She said: "Yes some people are doing enough but not everyone. We have a lot of successful entrepreneurs across the city and some people have made a lot of money. Now is the time to try and help others a bit.

"I have been hosting free meal events in the Sandon twice a week where people can come and have some hot food in a warm room."

Kate said that she did not want people to think this Saturday's event was just for the Anfield community. She said: "Yes were are in the heart of Oakfield Road but all our welcome from across the city. It's not just an Anfield event and we will make all welcome."

The event will take place from noon to 6pm on December 17 at The Sandon Complex on Oakfield Road in Anfield.
