Liverpool bring back key member of staff in major Mohamed Salah and Champions League final boost

Liverpool have brought popular physio Christopher Rohrbeck back to the club ahead of the Champions League final, having seen Fabinho, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk all suffer injuries in their past two games.

The Brazilian limped off in the Reds’ midweek victory over Aston Villa last week, while the Egyptian and Dutchman were both replaced in Liverpool ’s FA Cup final win over Chelsea on Saturday, with Jurgen Klopp keen not to risk the duo ahead of their clash with Real Madrid in Paris later this month.

The German has already played down fears that the trio won’t be fit for the Champions League final, but with three such important players to the Reds’ cause suffering such setbacks at the business end of the season, the Athletic reported on Monday morning that Rohrbeck was set to rejoin Liverpool, with Klopp keen to bring his compatriot back to the club

Having left Anfield in 2020 to re-join Mainz, the ECHO understands that Rohrbeck has rejoined the Reds’ backroom team on a temporary basis until the end of the season, with efforts to bring him back stepped up after Fabinho's injury, to aid with the trio’s rehabilitation and recovery ahead of the trip to Paris, but is currently not expected to stay beyond the Champions League final.

Rohrbeck initially joined Liverpool from the Bundesliga club in the summer of 2017 and was a key member of the backroom team as the Reds’ reached back-to-back Champions League finals against Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur in 2018 and 2019.

Reported to have been an extremely popular staff member, the German worked closely with the likes of Salah and Van Dijk.

News of his return will be most-welcome as Klopp’s squad prepares for a third European Cup final in five years.
