Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp told Arsenal comments could be 'bad business'

Ex-England international Danny Mills doesn't think Gabriel Martinelli is ready to break into Liverpool's current squad.

The Arsenal forward put on an impressive display in his side's 2-0 Carabao Cup semi-final loss to the Reds.

His performance saw Reds manager Jurgen Klopp praise him without being prompted after the game.

"Martinelli by the way...everybody should remember that name. Outstanding player," said Klopp in his post-match press conference.

The Reds attack is currently filled with world-class players in Roberto Firmino, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.

And Diogo Jota, who scored both goals on Thursday night, has continued to push the aforementioned trio as edges closer to the starting line-up when everyone is fit and available.

Klopp's comments led to whispers that Liverpool will attempt to bring the Brazilian to Anfield but Mills is of the opinion that the 20-year-old isn't of the required level to play for Liverpool just yet.

When asked by Football Insider whether he could see the Reds make a move for Martinelli, Mills said: "Unlikely.

“Klopp wouldn’t come out and say it unprompted otherwise. That’s bad business.

“If Arsenal know they really want someone they will put the price up. To come out and mention it in the press…

“Look at all the other players that play in that position for Liverpool, they probably know they need to get the Mo Salah deal done.

“Martinelli has done well but it’s been in fits and starts. There’s a lot of potential there but he hasn’t done it consistently.

“I don’t see him going to Liverpool, certainly not in the next couple of seasons.”
