Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp makes Inter Milan and Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds United comparison

Jurgen Klopp has made comparisons between Inter Milan and Marcelo Bielsa's Leeds United after Liverpool's last-16 Champions League second-leg tie at Anfield.

The Reds qualified for the quarter-finals despite a 1-0 defeat on the night. Lautaro Martinez scored the only goal of the game as Inter gave Liverpool a real scare in their pursuit of winning the competition.

However, a 2-0 victory at San Siro in the first-leg gave the Reds a platform to build on as they reached the last-eight for the fourth successive season.

Bayern Munich are the second side to join them after a thumping 7-1 win over Red Bull Salzburg at the Allianz Arena, with Robert Lewandowski scoring a hat-trick.

Manchester City are also in action tonight when they face Sporting Lisbon as Liverpool and Pep Guardiola's side battle it out in both domestic and European competitions.

Although it wasn't the Reds' most coveted performance, Inter have been praised for their approach, pressing from the front while being defensively structured in the meantime.

Simeone Inzaghi's side set up in a 3-5-2 formation with wing-backs that pushed forward and created overloads in wide areas - with the midfield squeezing high to prevent Liverpool from playing out from the back.

It was a system that caused Liverpool many problems over the course of the two legs and Klopp has actually likened Inter's approach to how Leeds played under Marcelo Bielsa.

In his post-match press conference, Klopp said: "Inter are a really good football team. They are like Leeds with Bielsa, but with much more quality."

Leeds were successful in their first season back in the Premier League with their high pressing and energetic style, collecting 59 points from their 38 matches.

Bielsa was often praised for his open and attractive football and how he managed to navigate Leeds to their highest league finish in over 17 years.

But the Whites' form this season has been poor, winning just five matches as they sit just above the relegation zone heading into the run-in and there's a real threat of relegation back to the Championship.

Liverpool also recently beat the Whites 6-0 at Anfield - their biggest win of the season - which was actually Bielsa's final away game in charge of the club before he was sacked.

Meanwhile, Inter are second in Serie A, losing just three times in 27 matches. AC Milan sit top, while Napoli and Juventus also currently occupy the top four spots.
