Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp makes defiant Virgil van Dijk claim after Burnley win

Jurgen Klopp believes Virgil van Dijk is now back to his best after he helped Liverpool shut out Burnley at Turf Moor.

Fabinho's first-half goal was enough for the three Premier League points.

But it was a victory built on the Reds' defence as Van Dijk and Joel Matip stood up to the direct threat of Sean Dyche's men on a wet and windy afternoon in Lancashire.

The result means the Reds have picked up six points in their two games this week without conceding with Van Dijk playing an integral role in the victories against Leicester and Burnley.

After spending 10 months out on the sidelines with a serious and long-term knee injury picked up at Everton in October 2020, Klopp now firmly believes the £75m defender is back to the levels he was at before that setback at Goodison Park.

"Definitely you can see it in all he does, we were always convinced that it would happen," Klopp said when asked if he thought Van Dijk was back to his best.

"Nobody knows exactly what is the reason why he had an issue.

"Is it timing? Is it that or this? But he is completely back on track.

"He was absolutely at his best again and I would say that is good timing because there is a decisive part of the season coming now, obviously. Long may it continue."
