Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp hails Luis Diaz impact as a near-miracle after January arrival

Jurgen Klopp says he new Luis Diaz would be a good fit for Liverpool the first time he watched him, but admits the speed with which he has settled in has been “not far away” from miraculous.

Diaz joined Liverpool from Porto in January, the Reds pushed to bring forward a planned summer move for the winger amid interest from Tottenham.

The Colombian has scored twice in six Premier League appearances for the Reds but more impressive than any statistics has been the ease with which he has clearly slotted into Klopp’s side.

Moving clubs and, in particular, leagues in the middle of the season can be notoriously difficult and even Klopp says he has been surprised by Diaz’s impact.

“You don’t expect miracles immediately from these kind of players,” Klopp told Sky Sports. “But he is not far away from doing exactly that. Long may it continue.

“Every coach would say the same about a January signing. You do it, but if you could, you would do it in the summer.

“With Luis, where it has been really special is that when we saw him we knew that he would fit in immediately. That is really difficult usually but because he did not have to change, that is why we have a really confident boy here.

“He was in a really good moment with Porto, playing good for Colombia, and so he came here full of confidence.”
