Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp can make four-year prediction come true with $25m Chelsea transfer

Christian Pulisic is set to leave Chelsea this summer with the USMNT ace entering the final year of his contract at the end of June.

The Blues, according to reports, are prepared to let the 24 year-old depart for around £20million ($25million). That itself is not surprising given his value is dropping with each day he nears the end of the contract he signed upon joining the Blues from Borussia Dortmund in 2019 for £58million.

Pulisic has struggled to make a mark consistently during his time at Stamford Bridge and has not been helped by chopping and changing of managers and injury issues. So Pulisic, still early into his footballing career, looks set to depart Chelsea with clubs across Europe likely to have had their interest piqued.

Whether the Blues would countenance selling to a Premier League rival is unlikely but it will come down to who is interested in the player, where he wants to go and who is willing to pay the transfer fee required to secure his services. Newcastle United have been linked with the financial backing of Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund making them major players in transfer windows from now on.

The Magpies are not keen, though, and whether Pulisic would prefer to move abroad, to Italy where AC Milan and Napoli are keen for example, also has to be taken into account. Pulisic could benefit from a change of scenery and fresh ideas away from English football, where USMNT players have struggled to make their mark on the whole.

Liverpool, who just struck a bargain £35million ($43million) move for Alexis Mac Allister, could see a repeat with a move for Pulisic, who is said to be prepared to take a pay cut in his next move. Signed by Dortmund in the latter months of Klopp's time at the club, the German spoke highly of Pulisic when quizzed about him in September 2019.

"He will be a proper player, he is and he will be, a big talent," Klopp said. "Dynamic, pretty good with both feet, super-exciting player.

"A good signing, I have to say." Klopp could rescue Pulisic's career by making a bargain move for a player he rated - and probably still does.

Chelsea, though they would be selling to a rival, know Liverpool have the financial firepower to get a move done quickly and Pulisic would link-up with a coach who could revive his career. For the USMNT, it would also see one of their star players remain at a top club in the Premier League and be beneficial for them commercially.

It could be a situation to watch in the summer transfer window.
