Liverpool boss facing touchline ban vs Nottingham Forest as Jurgen Klopp discovers key date

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has been charged by The FA with improper conduct ahead of this weekend's Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest.

The charge comes after the German screamed in the face of assistant referee Gary Beswick against Manchester City on Sunday. Referee Anthony Taylor immediately showed him a red card for the incident.

Klopp has until Friday to respond to the charge, but will not face a touchline ban in the meantime. That means he will be able to manage his Liverpool team against West Ham at Anfield in the Premier League on Wednesday evening (7.30pm).

However, the 55-year-old could be banned from the touchline for one or more games ahead of Saturday's meeting with Forest at the City Ground.

An FA spokesperson said: “Jurgen Klopp has been charged with a breach of FA Rule E3 following the Premier League game between Liverpool FC and Manchester City FC on Sunday [16/10/22]. It is alleged that the Liverpool FC manager’s behaviour during the 86th minute of this game was improper, and he has until Friday [21/10/22] to provide a response.”

After the City game, Klopp admitted he might have overstepped the mark but claimed that the linesman was "not bothered" by the apparent foul on Salah

He told Sky Sports: "In the end, probably deserved, but you cannot have this situation. It is the clearest foul I ever saw in front of the linesman and he is not bothered. It is clear. They just watch the game but we [the managers] are involved."

Klopp's antics on the touchline attracted criticism from Ref Support UK, a charity which offers support to grassroots referee who find themselves on the end of abuse.

Ref Support UK CEO Martin Cassidy said: "When you see world recognised figures like Jurgen Klopp and Pep Guardiola behaving like that, it is then replicated by people in youth football and perpetuates the idea that it is OK to do it."
