Liverpool and Man United 'keeping an eye' on Bundesliga defender available for free

Liverpool could make a move for a new defender in the coming months, if the latest reports are to be believed.

The January transfer window is open, and the Reds are continuing to be linked with potential new signings. Midfielder remains the area of the pitch which is getting the most attention in terms of need of strengthening.

Jurgen Klopp has already brought one new face to the club this month. Cody Gakpo has arrived from PSV Eindhoven in a deal that could be worth more than £40m.

Now a fresh report has claimed that a new defender could be on Liverpool's radar. According to journalist Ben Jacobs, the Reds are showing an interest in Eintracht Frankfurt centre-back Evan Ndicka.

Jacobs, speaking on the Football Terrace, has claimed that Liverpool are one of a number of clubs who are showing an interest in signing Ndicka in the summer. It has been claimed that Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are all in the race to sign the player.

“This is a player that is hotly being pursued and will be tremendous value in the summer, assuming that no new contract is agreed with Eintracht Frankfurt,” said Jacobs.

“There’s a mad, mad chase on all across Europe for the 23-year-old. Arsenal, Manchester United, Chelsea potentially. Liverpool have kept an eye on him and a whole variety of others all across Europe. PSG is another option.

“Top player, excellent value, 6 foot 4, modern defender, great season so far for Eintracht Frankfurt, can chip in with goals as well.

“There’s two things to quickly say here. Number one is that we have to bear in mind that a summer move is going to be absolutely a mad dash if the player’s available on a free transfer.

“The second thing is that naturally anything would be complicated should a new deal be signed. But at the moment the feeling is that the player is very seriously available on a free transfer.”
