Liverpool and Chelsea team news as Carabao Cup final draws near

Liverpool have the chance to win their first domestic trophy under Jurgen Klopp when they face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, February 27.

However, both sides still have another two fixtures to negotiate before they can focus on their Wembley showdown.

The Reds welcome Norwich City to Anfield on Saturday before hosting Leeds United on Wednesday in what is their game in hand on Premier League leaders Manchester City.

Meanwhile, Chelsea face a trip to Crystal Palace this Saturday, before they host Lille in the first leg of their last-16 Champions League encounter on Tuesday.

Both clubs will be hopeful of coming through their respective matches without any fresh injuries, and with all-important silverware in their sights, we take a look at the early team news before the Carabao Cup final.

Diogo Jota

Jota was taken off at half-time during Wednesday’s 2-0 Champions League last-16 first-leg win over Inter Milan with an ankle ligament injury.

The Portugal star was seen wearing a protective boot after Liverpool returned from Milan on Thursday and is now a major doubt for Saturday’s clash with Norwich.

It remains unclear whether the 25-year-old will be available for the Carabao Cup final with Chelsea.

Expected return date: N/A

Mason Mount

Mount was a doubt for Chelsea's triumphant Club World Cup campaign after suffering a knock against Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup, but he went on to play in both fixtures in the United Arab Emirates.

However, he was taken off during the final against Palmeiras with an ankle issue.

The England star is expected to be out of action for up to two weeks, but could be available to face Liverpool at Wembley.

Expected return date: Liverpool - February 27

Reece James

Whilst James travelled with his team-mates to support their triumphant Club World Cup campaign, he played no part in either of Chelsea's two matches.

The 22-year-old has been out of action since injuring his hamstring in December, and whilst he is stepping up his return from injury, it’s unclear whether he will be available for the Carabao Cup final.

Expected return date: N/A

Ruben Loftus-Cheek

Loftus-Cheek didn't travel with the rest of Chelsea's squad to the UAE after he picked up a knock during the winter break.

However, the midfielder is back in training and is set to be available to face Klopp's side next Sunday.

Expected return date: Crystal Palace (A) - February 19

Ben Chilwell

Chiwell won’t be available for the final and is expected to miss the remainder of the season after he sustained an ACL injury in November.

Expected return date: 2022/23 season
