Liverpool agree late deal with Fulham over Neco Williams loan transfer

Liverpool right-back Neco Williams will spend the rest of the season on loan at Championship leaders Fulham.

The Londoners managed to agree a deal ahead of the transfer window closing at 11pm on Monday evening.

The move was separate to Liverpool's pursuit of 19-year-old attacking midfielder Fabio Carvalho, which the Reds were unable to complete in time.

Williams was initially made available by the Reds on either a permanent transfer or a loan with an obligation to buy.

However, when no suitable bids were forthcoming, Liverpool were open to the possibility of a temporary move away from Anfield for the Wales international.

Williams is keen for more game time as he looks to earn a place for his national team in their World Cup qualifying play-off in March.

The 20-year-old made just one brief substitute appearance in the Premier League this season but started twice in both the Champions League and Carabao Cup.

Fulham co-owner Tony Khan said: "Neco is a great young talent and I’m delighted to welcome him to Fulham for the rest of the season.

"It’s important, especially with Denis (Odoi) now leaving the club, to bring in a player of Neco’s quality to ensure the strength of the squad."
