With travel back on the cards for Summer 2022, holidaymakers are ditching the travel agents and social posts and turning to a new source of inspiration: live streams. Live streaming service, Twitch, saw a 72% increase in views of its Travel & Outdoor category in the first quarter of 2022.
From locals streaming their day-to-day life in France, to sailing adventures, local wildlife watching and travellers cycling around the Japanese countryside, live streams provide the perfect escape from reality, while also offering jetsetters a first-hand, unfiltered look into potential destinations across the globe for their next trip.
For those who are still tossing up where to holiday this summer, you can take inspiration from the following experiences and locations…
- A road trip across Thailand, like Expat_malgre_lui and wander through the markets of Bangkok with POPOnut
- A fishing and camping trip in South Dakota, inspired by The Thirty Show
- For those wanting to soak up some English countryside, why not cycle across the country with Eve Bonnet
- Taste your way through Tokyo, with food recommendations from Miki_Tokyo
- Speed your way through Manila with TechTourist
- Visit a Cat Cafe in Gothenburg suggested by RazorRedd
- Follow in Awkwards_Travel ’s footsteps and head on a Grecian sailboat adventure
- Or take a stroll through the streets of Mexico like Grenheir
- Finally, if you’re a fan of the slow life, be inspired by Trinity and her van life across France
A Twitch spokesperson said: “While social media and travel brochures offer a carefully curated look at destinations, jetsetters are starting to look for the real and raw accounts of life in another location. People want to visit and live like the locals - and what better way to do that than by watching a live stream? Our Travel & Outdoor category allows people all over the world to get an authentic, unfiltered taste of life elsewhere. With such a huge variety of content on offer, we’d urge those looking for holiday inspiration to hop over to Twitch. Our creators might just inspire you to visit somewhere you’ve never even considered.”
