The written word will be brought to life by live music at a special performance at Paisley Book Festival.
Songs from the Last Page is an ambitious song-writing and live performance project, produced by composer Gareth Williams and Chamber Music Scotland.
The project creates new and heart-warming music from the last lines of great Scottish and international fiction: turning endings into beginnings.
Supported by EventScotland as part of the Year of Stories 2022, Songs from the Last Page will have its premiere performance at Paisley Book Festival’s finale event on Saturday, February 26.

A song-writing workshop will take place before the live music performance by award-winning composer Gareth Williams, cellist Justyna Jablonska, and violinist Aisling O’Dea.
Paul Tracey, Chamber Music Scotland’s Chief Executive said: “Scotland’s Year of Stories spotlights, celebrates, and promotes the wealth of stories inspired by, written, or created in Scotland.
“We are delighted to be a part of the Year of Stories, and can’t wait to bring ‘Songs from the Last Page’ to the fantastic Paisley Book Festival.”
The live music performance features songs about some of Scotland’s most talented storytellers, such as Robert Louis Stevenson, Alasdair Gray, and Janice Galloway.
The unique programme for Paisley Book Festival also includes an original song inspired by Duck Feet, the Renfrewshire dialect novel by Ely Percy.
Gordon Smith, VisitScotland’s Regional Director for Renfrewshire added: “We are delighted to be supporting Songs from the Last Page as part of Scotland’s Year of Stories 2022.
“With the project’s first stop at Paisley Book Festival, it will allow local performers, writers, and communities to participate in the song-writing workshop and festival finale and be part of this musical celebration of Scottish writers and their stories.”
After it’s premiere at Paisley Book Festival, ‘Songs from the Last Page’ will tour arts festivals, libraries, and community spaces across Scotland in 2022.
Paisley Book Festival is a grass-roots festival dedicated to people and place which runs until February 26. The 2022 Festival, Stories Mak Us, brings some of Scotland’s best writers and storytellers to Paisley for 10 days of fantastic events.
