LIVE at SNP HQ as police officers search premises following Peter Murrell arrest

POLICE Scotland officers have been filmed entering SNP HQ in Edinburgh following the arrest of former party chief executive Peter Murrell.

Around six officers were spotted entering Gordon Lamb House in Edinburgh, near the Royal Mile and a stone's throw from the Scottish Parliament, on Wednesday morning.

Our reporter Ross Hunter was live outside of HQ with the latest updates as the story unfolds.

You can watch below.

We told how footage showed police officers and a forensics tent outside of the Sturgeon-Murrell home in Uddingston, South Lanarkshire.

Officers were photographed standing outside of a police cordon at the residential property, with a blue and white tent covering the front entrance.

A spokesperson for the SNP said: “Clearly it would not be appropriate to comment on any live police investigation but the SNP have been co-operating fully with this investigation and will continue to do so.

“At its meeting on Saturday, the governing body of the SNP, the NEC, agreed to a review of governance and transparency – that will be taken forward in the coming weeks.”

Police Scotland confirmed that Murrell, 58, had been arrested on Wednesday morning, and that a number of properties will be searched as part of the probe.

A force spokesperson said: "The matter is active for the purposes of the Contempt of Court Act 1981 and the public are therefore advised to exercise caution if discussing it on social media.

"As the investigation is ongoing we are unable to comment further."
