Nintendo Fans! We're so close to finding out everything we need to know about the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 console, with less than a week to go until the highly anticipated Nintendo Direct event should finally reveal all. If you haven't already, be sure to register your interest in the Nintendo Switch 2 to be ahead of the digital queues when preorders eventually go live.

Don't want to wait until April 2nd for the big announcement? Confusingly, there's also a new Nintendo Direct live stream happening TODAY at 15:00 CET / 14:00 UK / 10:00 ET / 7am PT time – though Nintendo has stated explicitly that there will be no new announcements made today concerning the Switch 2 console.

So what is today's Nintendo Direct actually about? Mostly new Switch games. We don't know for sure what will be announced, but we're predicting that a new Donkey Kong title could be a possibility, as well as remakes of some classics from the Metroid Prime series, and we wouldn't be surprised if a new Kirby game was announced either.

Watch today's Nintendo Direct below

Stick with us today to watch the Nintendo Direct live stream as it happens, or you can head over to the Nintendo Direct website and Nintendo UK YouTube channel to catch it too. Below, I'll be discussing all of our theories and predictions, and hopefully sharing a few Nintendo deals too as I spot them. Take a look at our guide to the best Nintendo Switch deals if you're looking for a real bargain.

Good morning Nintendo fans! Beth here, CB's ecommerce writer.

We're all super excited for today's Nintendo Direct livestream in the Creative Bloq office, and have already been exchanging some theories on what new titles could possibly be announced. Stick with us if you don't want to miss out on crucial Switch 2 updates as soon as we have them.

I've got myself a coffee in my favourite flask (Luigi is on the back too), and I'm ready to get stuck into some Nintendo Deals hunting in celebration of today's Direct live stream.

In case you didn't see above, the Nintendo Direct stream today will kick off at 15:00 CET / 14:00 UK / 7am PT / 10:00 ET time, so don't be late!

I know its unfortunate that there won't be any new details unveiled today on the Nintendo Switch 2 console, but at least we only have 6 days to go until the big event on April 2nd!

If you haven't already seen it, take a look at Nintendo's announcement trailer for the Nintendo Switch 2 below, offering a first look at what the Switch 2 will look like, and the kind of features we can expect.

I think the all-black design of the Switch 2 with subtle tints of colour looks super sleek, but knowing Nintendo, there could be a whole roster of colours to choose from once the Switch 2 is officially launched.

So what new Nintendo Switch games might we hear about today? We already know that Mario Kart 9 has been pretty much confirmed (though we've only seen a glimpse of it) – with a flash of a new Donkey Kong character design which we think looks pretty cute and endearing.

What other Nintendo Characters might've had a revamp for 2025?

Personally, I'm a huge Pokémon fan (I even have a Snorlax tattoo), so I'll be most excited to play any new Pokémon titles when I get my hands on a Nintendo Switch 2.

Just last month, on February 27th, we were celebrating Pokémon Day. Thanks to the Pokémon Presents live stream that was hosted via YouTube, we got a sneak peek at some new Pokémon titles including Legends Z-A (the Legends Arceus sequel), as well as a world-first look at Pokémon Champions, the battle-focussed game, which will be coming to the Nintendo Switch console family.

Creative Bloq Team predictions

The truth is, we have no idea what games Nintendo will announce at today's Direct event, so all we can do is predict and cross our fingers.

Beth:

"Given that Nintendo released a bunch of Mario-focussed games not too long ago, I'm thinking we might see some other Nintendo characters taking the spotlight this time around. I wouldn't be surprised if a new Kirby game was announced today, or perhaps even another Captain Toad or Yoshi spinoff. I loved that Princess Peach was finally given a solo game last year, so I hope Nintendo will continue this trend. I'd also love to see a Super Smash Bros 2, and a new Nintendogs would be the dream, but that's just wishful thinking".

Ian:

"I think it's likely we'll get a few indie games announced today, as well as remakes. Possibly from the Metroid Prime series, or we might even get a Metroid Prime 4: Beyond update too".

Beren:

"If I remember correctly, the last Nintendo Switch console launched with the Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, so perhaps we could see the Switch 2 also launch with a new Legend of Zelda title or remake to appeal to older Nintendo fans".

Will we see a Donkey Kong Country Returns HD title announced today? Only time will tell.

What is the likelihood that Palworld could be coming to the Nintendo Switch 2?

Despite all of the drama and copyright beef between Nintendo and Pocketpair, there's no denying that Palworld is a pretty popular game. According to IGN, John Buckley, the Communications Director of Pocketpair, has said that a Switch 2 version of Palworld is not in the cards right now, but "100% worth considering" if the game is compatible and able to run smoothly on Nintendo's upcoming console.

Off-topic on Switch games for a second - but I'm seriously hoping that I'll still get to use my pretty NYXI Bluetooth controller with the new Nintendo Switch 2 console. I'm sure that the upcoming console will still support the use of third-party controllers, but who knows?

If you're also someone who owns one of the best Joy-Con alternatives for your Nintendo Switch, how do you think the new controllers will measure up in comparison with the unreliable and stick drift-ridden Joy-Cons that we're used to? I'm hoping the new pads will at least have Hall effect sticks. Fingers crossed.

Sooo... it looks like I could be right about a new Smash Bros. title.

Japanese video director, Masahiro Sakurai (creator of Kirby and Super Smash Bros. series), has retweeted the news of today's Nintendo Direct event over on X accompanied by a one-word message 'method'.

Fans are suggesting that Sakurai doesn't usually retweet or engage with any news of Directs unless one of his games (Smash Bros) is in it. Take a look at the tweet below, and make of this what you will.

There's just one hour to go until today's Nintendo Direct starts!

While Nintendo has explicitly stated that there won't be any updates on the Switch 2 (these will be coming next week), we're seeing plenty of speculation about the upcoming console.

One eagle-eyed modder has discovered a line of code in Xenoblade Chronicles X: Definitive Edition that suggests that the Switch 2 could get upscaling tech like that in Sony's PS5 Pro, which could make existing Switch games to run at 60 frames per second.

There's just 30 minutes to go! Can't contain your excitement? Keep calm, sit back and enjoy this delightful Mario optical illusion from the Japanese artist Tatsuya Tanaka!

Pac-Man Shadow Labyrinth looks really cool actually

Aaaah new Story of Seasons game! We haven't seen one of these for a while. Cozy games like this are my absolute faves!! Coming August 27, 2025

Okay... I've never played any Tamagotchi games but this looks pretty cute. Very Animal Crossing vibes

I absolutely love the idea of virtual game cards!! I've been saying for years how physical games have more value than digital games, one of the reasons being for the purpose of sharing them with your friends or family. This feature now lets you switch games between Nintendo Switch systems thanks to a system update coming in April.

How handy is that???

Did somebody say Marvel??

That can't be the last game announced? No Super Smash Bros? No Mario Kart 9 footage? C'mon Nintendo...

At least we're getting a new Nintendo Today app, as if we don't have enough apps already 🙄 Admittedly, this is a pretty cool and modern way of delivering news and updates on the Switch 2 to consumers, but not everyone has space on their devices for more apps, or the patience to keep checking. Just send me an email when the Switch 2 preorder links go live, that's all I need (does this make me sound old?).

Well...there we have it guys. Anyone else feeling a little underwhelmed by that Direct? I know there's another one in less than a week, but they could have given us at least a crumb of something exciting.

That's it for the Nintendo updates today folks. But let me leave you with a roundup of some Nintendo Switch game deals that I've put together to make up for the pretty poor Nintendo Direct announcements.

Deals include up to 50% off Just Dance 2025, plus price cuts on popular Mario, Sonic, and Pokemon titles.
