LIV Golf rebel Talor Gooch has hit back at Shane Lowry' s 'one for the good guys' comment after winning a fourth straight LIV team event with the 4 Aces. Gooch, Dustin Johnson, Patrick Reed and Pat Perez have dominated the team element of the breakaway circuit and added a fourth title in a row with victory in Chicago on Sunday.
As is becoming the norm for Gooch and co, they celebrated their victory on stage in front of the LIV crowd in Chicago and the American had time to send a jibe to Lowry in the process. One week prior, the American made a controversial return to the DP World Tour to compete at the BMW PGA Championship alongside 17 other LIV defectors.
After a tense finish at Wentworth, DP World Tour loyalist Lowry was the man who came away with the title as he saw off two of his Ryder Cup teammates in Jon Rahm and Rory McIlroy.
In his victory speech the Irishman could not resist taking a dig at the returning LIV stars, claiming his win was 'one for the good guys'. Lowry said: "I’m the happiest man in the world right now. I love it here and I’ve contended in the past. This means so much to me…
“I wanted to go out and win this tournament for myself, first and foremost, but also for this tour and everyone that’s stayed loyal to this tour. I feel like this is one for the good guys.” One week on though, Gooch fired back at Lowry.
Uploading a clip of himself and his teammates celebrating in Chicago, the former PGA Tour star used the caption: "Another one for the good guys." Gooch has unexpectedly become a key figure in golf's ongoing civil war following his recent jibe at Lowry.
He - alongside the rest of the LIV defectors - has faced plenty of criticism, but this has left the 30-year-old confused after claiming he has 'never meant anything' to the those who have hit out at him. Gooch told Fire Pit Collective: "I’ve never meant anything to them.
"And so it is wild when I have buddies send me videos back home and they’re like, God, can you believe they’re saying this about you?”
