LIV Golf momentum rolls on before 2023 as series captures iconic former PGA Tour course

LIV Golf has announced three more tournaments in venues across the United States in 2023 - including an iconic former PGA Tour course.

The controversial Saudi-funded venture is aiming to build on the momentum from its disruptive launch this year. Fronted by CEO Greg Norman, the mega-money invitational series has ripped up golf's status quo by luring a host of elite names to play, including Cameron Smith, Dustin Johnson and Bryson DeChambeau.

LIV's tumultuous inaugural season included eight events, and the series will expand to 14 tournaments next year.

And in the latest announcement from Norman, the breakaway tour has confirmed it will visit the legendary Old White course at The Greenbrier in West Virginia in August from August 4-6. The Greenbrier, one of the most revered tracks on the PGA Tour, held events on the American circuit between 2010 and 2019 before its contract was ended.

LIV has now moved to snap up the recognisable course, and the contentious tour will also be making stops at The Gallery Golf Club in Arizona (March 17-19) and the Cedar Ridge Country Club in Oklahoma (May 12-14).

Seven locations in the 14-event calendar have now been confirmed, with the global schedule also including events in Mexico, Australia, Singapore and the famous Valderrama in Spain.

"LIV Golf’s expansion to new US markets adds to the growing excitement for the league launch in 2023,” Norman's statement read.

“More fans across the country and around the globe will experience the LIV Golf energy and innovative competition that has reinvigorated the sport, and these championship courses will contribute to the transformative season ahead for players, fans and the game of golf.”

LIV are expected to confirm the rest of their 2023 schedule before the end of the year, after the 2022 inaugural series ended at Trump Doral near Miami in late October.

The series could return to Doral, as well as other 2022 venues including the Centurion Club near London and another of former US President Donald Trump's courses, Trump Bedminster in New Jersey.
