LIV Golf have made a late change to their 2023 schedule, with their season finale moved from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia to a Donald Trump -owned course in Miami.
The 2023 campaign was set to come to a close in the Saudi capital at Royal Greens Golf & Country Club and house the breakaway circuit's season-ending team championship. Instead, Jeddah will now play host to the penultimate event of the year, where the individual season will come to a close.
In its place former President of the United States, Trump, will instead play host, just as he did in LIV Golf's inaugural season last October. Discussing the decision LIV CEO Greg Norman hailed the progress the team-aspect of the breakaway league had made in 2023.
Norman said: "We’re thrilled to return to the Blue Monster at Doral to celebrate a historic year and crown the 2023 LIV Golf League team champion.
"The team concept has come to life this year in exciting new ways as our players and fans embrace the launch of team golf. We’re building up for an action-packed weekend with headline entertainment that will put an exclamation point on another can’t-miss LIV Golf event.”
The event in Miami will see the Saudi-backed league's 12 teams go head-to-head in a seeded competition, with a £39 million prize purse on offer. In 2022 Dustin Johnson completed a maiden season double, as he backed up winning the individual LIV title with the team crown alongside his 4Aces teammates.
And the defending champions are in a great spot to go back-to-back as things stand, as they sit top of the seasonal leaderboard after nine events. The 4Aces added their second win of the 2023 season at LIV London on Sunday, seeing off Ripper GC by a single shot.
Leading the way for the 4Aces was 2018 Masters champion Patrick Reed, whose second place finish in the individual standings propelled his team to the top of the leaderboard. I feel like this week meant a lot for us to go out and make a statement," Reed said post-tournament.
"I feel like after that first round, we all really played some solid golf, from DJ through the entire team. Because of that, we were able to go out there and make a run like we did today, and also yesterday. I felt like yesterday was a very important day for us as a team and also individually to have guys go out and play the way they did and kind of have that momentum going into today."
