LIV Golf analyst blasts claims stars are joining rebel tour to grow the game as 'bulls***'

LIV Golf analyst David Feherty has admitted he joined the controversial Saudi-backed breakaway league solely because of the money and hit out at players who claim they signed on to try and "grow the game".

Feherty left NBC in July to join LIV and gave an honest response when asked why he made the move. "Money." Feherty told the Toledo Blade. "People don't talk about it. I hear, 'Well, it's to grow the game.' Bulls***. They paid me a lot of money."

Feherty did add that there were other reasons behind his decision besides the money, adding: "[It was] an opportunity to be myself again. It's become more and more difficult, especially in sports broadcasting, to have any kind of character.

"Charles Barkley can say pretty much anything he wants because it’s, 'Oh, that's just Charles.' And it's just Charles.

"But I have become more and more guarded over the last few years. There are people waiting around every corner hoping to be offended by something. F*** those people."

Bryson DeChambeau, who is earning around $125million (£102m) after defecting to LIV, told the Tucker Carlson show of his decision: "First and foremost, it is a lot of opportunity to do something different in the game of golf. I've always been a bit of a trendsetter.

"Growing up I always thought I'd do something cool in the game of golf. I've always thought golf has to tailor to the younger generation and I am all about growing the game of golf."

Patrick Reed has also claimed something similar about his decision to join LIV, saying: "For me, it's more about travelling and playing golf and trying to grow the game around the world–and not just staying at home and playing at home.

"I have always loved traveling and playing, so to play an event like this is a dream for me."
