Little known WhatsApp hack to listen to long voice notes quicker

If you don't send long, rambling, voice notes to your friends and family, you're probably someone who is on the receiving end of them.

WhatsApp is the world's most popular messaging platform, with some two billion users across the globe. The Meta-owned app features a facility to send voice messages, as well as text, and these are often used when the sender has a lot to say - or has their hands full.

These are also more helpful for portraying emotion, and saying things you'd rather not type into a message.

But for some people, listening to voice notes can be time consuming, especially if you've been sent a few and they're all quite lengthy. Thankfully, there is a little-known hack to help you listen to the audio clips more quickly.

Earlier this year, WhatsApp rolled out a new fast playback option. As the name suggests, the feature means you can increase the speed at which your voice notes are played.

You can opt to listen at 1.5x or 2x the original speed, however the highest setting may be too fast for you to fully understand the message. If you find you've set the speed too high, you can simply click to revert it to 1x.

To alter the speed, press play to begin the voice message, and on the right hand side a grey box will appear which reads: "1x". Pressing this once will increase to 1.5x, and again to 2.x.
