Little-known trick to get free Percy Pigs from M&S every month wows shoppers

Percy Pig fans assemble. Marks and Spencer shoppers can earn a free bag of sweets every month by participating in a sustainability scheme - a real win win.

As a thrifty mum named Maria demonstrated in a now-viral Instagram post, customers who recycle their clothes can reap a tasty reward.

Simply take your pre-loved clothes to your local shop's Shwop bin, scan the QR code, and then check your Sparks app, as per @thismumsavesmoney's video.

To thank you for your efforts, which help to reduce clothing waste, you're then offered a free bag of Percy Pig or Colin the Caterpillar sweets.

You'll also be doing your little bit to help the environment. "Every time you place pre-loved clothes in one of our Shwop boxes they're resold, reused or recycled, so absolutely nothing goes to waste," according to M&S's website.

But you don't have to Shwop clothing purchased from the shop. You can donate clothing from any retailer, including shoes, handbags, jewellery, belts, hats, scarves, and bras. Soft furnishings, including towels, bed linen and curtains are also accepted.

However, if you Shwop in an Oxfam store and donate an item of M&S clothing, Oxfam will give you a £5 clothing and home voucher to save and spend in-store.

The scheme won't come as a surprise to all M&S customers, as the M&S and Oxfam Shwopping partnership launched way back in 2008 - and it's helped to contribute an estimated £23 million to Oxfam's work, while collecting over 36 million items.

But it was welcome news for @thismumsavesmoney's followers, who were delighted to learn about the scheme.

Replying to the video, which has amassed over 14,000 likes, one commenter wrote: "Great idea and good way to encourage recycling clothes."

"Going to have to do this!" a second said. "Wow. Thank you," answered another. Someone else joked: "I could be eating free Percy pigs for life."
