Bristol is surrounded by stunning outdoor spaces and one of the nearest stretches of countryside is the Mendip Hills. The area takes less than 40 minutes to reach by car and offers incredible walks and renowned eateries.
One pub, disguised as an old Victorian cottage, has built up a reputution as serving up the West Country's best ploughman lunches. The Crown Inn is just off the A368 in the village of Churchill, treating diners to eye-catching traditional features and a large beer garden, reports Somerset Live.
Customers can enjoy the venue's log fire or marvel at the spot's low wooden beams, making this pub unique to any other in the area.

Serving a wide range of classic ales, people also rave about the beer garden that is spread over a very natural and wild-looking outdoor space.
Their famous ploughman's lunch offers four different selections, ranging from stilton to a farmers plate, the result was as delicious as it sounds. With pickle, three types of meat, salad, fresh (and still warm) bread alongside a lot of cheese, I think you would struggle to find me a better ploughman's in Somerset.
Also, the Crown Inn is dog friendly too. Having taken note of the 103 5 star reviews left on TripAdvisor, the food certainly lived up to its name.
One reviewer, Malcomj346 said, "Great location, super ploughman's lunches, friendly staff and locals - visiting for over 40 years and it hasn't changed a bit".
Another happy customer, wrote: "Popped in on the way back from holiday for lunch, now taking card payments!
"The staff and kitchen were very busy but there was plenty of places to sit (two adults, two kids) and ordered two doorstep sandwiches (beef and stilton and ham and a farmhouse platter).
Well worth the wait: all freshly made and filling, washed down with one of several, well-kept ales.
Definitely worth seeking out!"
It was quite essentially a classic British countryside pub with stone walls, low ceilings and dated wooden furniture.
The ploughman's alone makes the Crown Inn worth a visit.
