Bringing some much-needed color to the long month of January, Little Greene has just launched its fifth wallpaper collection in collaboration with the iconic UK conservation charity, the National Trust called Storybook Papers.
Spanning eight new wallpaper designs, which feel instantly cheerful and playful, the Storybook Papers is an exploration of childhoods gone by, with each of the quaint designs taking inspiration from various archive materials that the National Trust has conserved from its historic properties across the UK.
From twentieth-century toys to fabrics and artworks – including those by celebrated British children's author and illustrator Beatrix Potter – many artifacts inspired the intricate patterns of the new collection; resulting in colorful and upbeat wallpapers to add charm to your home.
‘It’s always such an honor to have access to the incredible National Trust properties, uncovering and reviving captivating historic designs, reinterpreting them and extending their history in new colorways and formats,' says Little Greene’s Creative Director, Ruth Mottershead.
'It’s wonderful to think that these beautiful pieces of history, including toys, children’s illustrations, and fabrics have now been transformed by the design team into wallpapers that will find their way into contemporary homes, bringing joy for years to come,' Ruth adds.
A bold and maximalist feel runs throughout the collection, but these wallpaper designs aren't restricted to children's rooms. Ruth explains that these joy-giving designs are an equally welcomed addition in several rooms throughout the home, for an unexpected hit of color and pattern:
'Whilst the origins of the ‘Storybook Papers’ are very much rooted in childhood, the whimsical, playful, and colorful nature of these wallpapers makes them perfect for a multitude of spaces alongside children’s rooms and nurseries. I see these bold, bright, and characterful designs bringing joy to breakfast rooms, hallways, boot rooms, bathrooms, and dining spaces,' explains Ruth.
While these wallpapers go hand in hand with maximalist decor ideas and feel especially fitting in traditional-style homes due to their historical influence, that's not to say they're limited to these homes. If you have a small room that you want to add interest to, these wallpapers bring stylish drama, even in modern homes.
If you want to create a high-impact look, you could even 'drench' a room in one of these papers, wrapping the whole space for a fun and lively feel, from guest bedrooms to powder rooms.
