An adorable pooch has been left looking like a brand new dog after undergoing a massive transformation.
The terrier-type dog's coat hadn't been cut for months, and was found with a mass of matted fur in dreadlocks covering its face, body and feet during an inspection by RSPCA workers.
After getting a makeover and a full shave, the once shaggy dog dramatically shrunk in size – and looked almost unrecognisable.
An RSPCA spokesperson for south-east England said: "His owners worked with us to get him the help that he needed and after a good clip, he looked like a completely different dog!"
They added: "He will now be feeling a lot more comfortable and happier.
"We will always try to work with pet owners in instances like this. Often this is done through education, awareness and sharing welfare advice.
"We're pleased that our intervention here was able to help this dog."
Because of the cooperation of the owners, the pooch was able to return home with them – looking a lot happier.
The pooch joins another dog who was so matted he was struggling to see. The RSPCA intervened by cutting off 1.5kg of tangled fur from the Shih Tzu.
It took two and a half hours to cut the matts off, and the dog seemed "so happy" after undergoing the transformation.
Another dog was struggling to walk because his fur was so matted. The terrier cross was found abandoned in August 2020 and was saved by the RSPCA.
Charity workers gave the pooch a haircut, groom and provided urgent medical care – before finding a new home for him.
His new owner Tracey said: "My heart melted when I saw his photo. He looked like our late dog and we completely fell in love with him."
Adding: "He goes to the groomer regularly and really enjoys the fuss and attention he gets. He's a little star when he has a haircut."
