Little Britain to return to TV for Big Night In charity telethon

Little Britain is set to return to TV screens for the first time in more than 10 years, the BBC has announced.

David Walliams and Matt Lucas will bring back the comedy on BBC One’s The Big Night In, which aims to provide an evening of entertainment during the coronavirus lockdown.

The pair will perform in a new sketch, with the BBC confirming that details of their performance will remain under wraps until the live show airs.

The series, which featured memorable - and sometimes controversial - comedy characters such as Vicky Pollard, Marjorie Dawes and Lou and Andy, originated on BBC Radio 4 before making its television debut on BBC Three in 2003, later moving to BBC One in 2004 and coming to an end the following year.

The creators have since brought back some of their comic creations for charity specials for Comic Relief and also created a new series for an American audience, Little Britain USA, which aired on HBO in 2007.

Walliams and Lucas then revived their sketch show last year for Little Brexit, a one-off special which aired on Radio 4.

Lucas recently suggested that he and his co-star would "love to bring [the show] back in some way, and at some point," after reports suggested that the series could move to Netflix.

"We're both quite busy boys, but we're speaking often and one idea was maybe to do a stage show of it again," he added.

"It will come back in some form, we're just still figuring out what that will be."

The Big Night In marks the first time that Comic Relief and Children In Need have joined forces and is intended to raise the nation's spirits during the coronavirus crisis as well as raising funds for the relief effort.

It will be broadcast on April 23 from 7pm.
