Lithuanian athlete Mykolas Alekna experienced a mix of emotions during the discus throw event at the Olympics. He started strong by setting a new Olympic record, surpassing his father's mark from the 2004 Games in Athens. However, his lead was short-lived as Rojé Stola of Jamaica eventually claimed the gold medal by surpassing Alekna's record.

Reflecting on his performance, Alekna expressed his joy at breaking the Olympic record and securing a silver medal. Despite his initial hopes of winning, he acknowledged the unpredictable nature of sports and the fierce competition at the event.

Alekna admitted that Stola's performance took everyone by surprise, including himself. While he acknowledged Stola's talent, he did not anticipate such a remarkable achievement at the Olympics. Alekna highlighted the unpredictable nature of discus throw competition, where outcomes often hinge on small differences.

When asked about surpassing his father Virgilijus' record, Alekna modestly shifted the focus to his medal win, indicating his contentment with the result.
