Welcome to the big dance, Chattanooga!
On Monday, basketball fans got their first taste of March Madness as Chattanooga stunned Furman in overtime of the SoCon Championship on David Jean-Baptiste’s game-winning three-pointer. After the Paladins took a 63-61 lead with 4.3 seconds left in overtime, Jean-Baptiste drove down the court and tossed a beautiful Hail Mary 40-footer to give the Mocs the walk-off 64-63 buzzer beater win.
Even worse for Furman? The Paladins didn’t even miss a shot in overtime after forcing the additional period off their own three-pointer and still lost on Jean-Baptiste’s heroic play. It’s a stellar shot made with essentially no time at all to set up for the heave, but Jean-Baptiste managed to put enough air under it for it to go in.
The radio call from the Chattanooga side is just as good as Jean-Baptiste’s buzzer beater shot too.

What a moment for the Mocs! And heartbreak for the Paladins, as this last-second game winner in OT has kept Furman out of the NCAA tournament once more, with their last appearance dating back to 1980.
