Sound of a meteorite hitting Earth captured for the first time – on a doorbell camera

The sound of a meteorite hitting Earth has been captured for the first time after striking a man’s home.

Joe Velaidum had just left for a dog walk from home on Prince Edward Island, Canada, when he heard a massive crash outside.

Incredible footage captured on Mr Velaidum’s CCTV camera on 25 July, last year, shows the meteorite plummeting from the sky and landing on the ground.

After sending samples of the star shaped fragments to the University of Alberta’s Meteorite Collection, curator Chris Herd confirmed the rock was indeed a meteorite.

Joe said: “It’s mind blowing to think that this hunk or rock travelled hundreds of millions of miles and landed on our front doorstep.”
