Teachers are going on strike again on Tuesday as they continue their fight for a better pay deal from the Government.
Members of the National Education Union (NEU) walked out last week as well as taking strike action in February and March. The latest walkout is on Tuesday, May 2, as the dispute continues.
The Government has previously offered teachers a £1,000 one-off payment for the current school year (2022/23) and an average 4.5% pay rise for staff next year following intensive talks with education unions. However, four unions - the NEU, the NASUWT teaching union, the National Association of Head Teachers (NAHT) and the Association of School and College Leaders (ASCL) - rejected the pay offer.

The NEU is campaigning for a fully funded above-inflation pay rise. The decision on teachers' pay in England for next year has now been passed to the independent pay review body, the School Teachers' Review Body (STRB).

Sunderland
Simon Marshall, Sunderland’s director of education services, said: "We have 120 schools and academies in Sunderland. Our latest information suggests that many will be impacted by closures or partial closures for particular year groups, and others will remain open for the most vulnerable children and those of critical workers.
"We have been advising parents to contact schools, and to check websites and school social media for further information."
