List of 10 'worst' baby names revealed - and it's sure to upset a lot of people

Choosing baby names can feel like an impossible task for expecting parents because, obviously, it's a life-long decision and you don't want to get it wrong.

When shortlisting names, it can actually be easier to rule out names, and luckily, the parent of Mumsnet have come together to list some of the worst baby names still loved by mums - but it's like to upset a lot of people.

Interestingly, a lot of names on the list are actually pretty ordinary - and very popular - which means there's a slight (very big) chance it's going to offend some people.

Anyway, the list of 10 girls' names gives reasons as to why they're apparently so undesirable, and some of the reasons are just downright bizarre.

The list was revealed in all its glory on Mumsnet after the site posed the question "What would you never name a child and why?".

And the mums did not hold back...

1. Mia – Because it means "missing in action".

2. Lana – As spelt backwards, it looks rather rude.

3. Fanny – "For obvious reasons".

4. Grace – Because "there are very few accents that say it gracefully".

5. Amelia – As one mum "find(s) the 'me' so whiney".

6. Graham – As "it sounds like "Grey Ham'".

7. Flora – One mum admitted: "(it) makes me think of bacteria".

8. Alexa – Because it sounds too much like the virtual assistant.

9. Mercedes – A parent said: "She’s a child not a car".

10. Luna – Because "it's a pet name".

What's most surprising about the so-called worst baby names is that three of them actually feature in the top 10 most popular baby names for 2022 so far, proving that people certainly aren't being put off.

According to BabyCenter, Olivia is the most popular girls' name this year, closely followed by Emma and Amelia - which doesn't sound so whiney now, does it mums?

Mia features as seventh most popular and Luna in eighth, which really just goes to show that everyone will have an opinion, but that doesn't mean anyone will actually agree with them.
