Lisburn boxer Kurt Walker overcomes 'Mike Tyson' moment to win in Frankfurt

Kurt Walker came through a 'Mike Tyson' moment to extend his unbeaten record to 4-0 in Frankfurt.

The Lisburn fighter outclassed Colombian opponent Yin Caicedo on the undercard of Padraig McCrory's world title clash with Leon Bunn.

Walker controlled his six-round contest and dominated journeyman Caicedo, whose frustration appeared to boil over in the final minutes of the fight.

During a clinch, Walker recoiled sharply and claimed he had been bitten on the neck by his opponent.

The referee inspected Walker's neck and could see no marks, and then confronted Caicedo who denied any bite.

Walker was able to laugh off the incident afterwards, saying: "I was doing well and he decided to have a bite on my neck at one stage.

"He tried to have a quick bite at my neck in the final round. I just said 'what's he doing?' because he wasn't going to win anyway.

"So I had to make him miss after that, to annoy him."

Speaking on TG4's coverage, Limerick boxer Paddy Donovan said fans almost witnessed a scene similar to Mike Tyson's infamous bite on Evander Holyfield during their rematch in 1997.

"We were worried about a head clash or elbow or something, but we nearly witnessed a Mike Tyson-Evander Holyfield scene there," Donovan said.

"These fighters are unpredictable, we knew that going into this fight. We spoke about it and there's no need for this carry on in a boxing ring.

"He should have been disqualified straight away but it didn't leave a mark so the referee couldn't take action on it.

"But Kurt got the six rounds in and he controlled the fight against a very unorthodox fighter. So job done."
