Former Manchester United striker Teddy Sheringham has hailed Lisandro Martinez for his never say die attitude on the pitch that makes him stand out from the rest of the defenders at the club.
The warrior spirit that Martinez brings to United has been well documented by Erik ten Hag. The Dutchman knew exactly what he was going to get from his former Ajax defender, as the 24-year-old has adapted to the intensity of the Premier League seamlessly.
Even during United's 3-1 defeat to Aston Villa on Sunday, the Argentine showed his tenacity as he carefully toed the line between acceptable aggression and taking things too far. Although Leon Bailey was not happy with Martinez as the pair battled for the ball, neither the referee nor VAR took issue with his actions as the defender showed his fight and determination on the pitch once again.

Sheringham has now heaped praise on Martinez, as the former Spurs forward claimed that the actions of the centre-back make him a winner.
He told Genting Casino : "Would I like Martinez as one of my defenders? I’d absolutely love it. What do you want him to be a pussycat at the back?
"Dirty tricks are all part of the game and football’s changing but you still got to have the muscle on the pitch and desire to stick your head in where some people wouldn’t put their feet. That’s what makes winners.
"If Martinez conducts himself like that, that’s what the Latin temperament is all about to get competitive and stop your opponent from doing what they’re doing."
