Lisandro Martinez sends message on 'connection' with Manchester United fans

Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez has sent a message of gratitude to the fans after he opened up on his "dream" move to Old Trafford.

Martinez has made an instant connection with United fans. His passion, energy and commitment on the pitch has been backed up with some superb performances during his brief time as a Red.

The bond between the fans and their new signing was on display after United supporters voted for Martinez as the club's player of the month for August. The Argentinian has settled in seamlessly to life under Erik ten Hag, as he picks up where he left off with his former coach in Manchester.

Martinez has also formed a growing partnership with Raphael Varane as the pair complement each other's strengths and weaknesses at the back. The 24-year-old has now opened up on what he described as a "dream", as he told United's in-house media just how pleased he was to be at the club.

He said: "I really enjoy to play for Manchester United, it was my dream to play here in this amazing stadium, with this incredible team as well. So I’m really happy to be here."

Martinez also expressed his gratitude to the reception he has received from the supporters, and had a message of his own to give back to the fans.

He added: "If you play a friendly game or if you play a big game, the people will be there for the club. It’s amazing, when I was younger I watched many games for Manchester United and many Argentinian players as well, so I think Manchester United is one of the most important clubs in the world.

"I’m so happy because we have a connection with the people, it’s like we are not playing alone, it’s like we play with them as well. I’m really happy to feel that love from the fans, it’s incredible.

"In the game you play with more adrenaline, with more passion, because you know that they are there for you. So to the fans I say ‘thank you so much, and I appreciate it', [I] feel too much love from them.”
