Lisandro Martinez has described how he will “forever” remember the opportunity Ajax gave to him as he completed his transfer to Manchester United. The Argentine has already enjoyed his first outing in a United shirt having featured in a 4-1 behind-closed-doors friendly win over Wrexham just hours after his official unveiling on Wednesday.
The centre-half renews ties with Erik ten Hag, having won two Dutch titles with him at Ajax. Martinez was brought over to the Netherlands by the new United manager in 2019 and became an important figure in his side.
He grew into a much-loved player with the Ajax faithful and now, in the wake of his switch to Old Trafford, Martinez has sent a message to them and everyone at the club.

Writing on Twitter, he said: “Today marks the end of a very important chapter in my career and life, and I leave with the pride and honour of having been a part of this amazing club.
“It was a privilege to share some incredible moments with you all at the Cruyff ArenA. I’ll never forget the trophies we celebrated together and the superb atmosphere on Champions League nights. Thanks for always being there for us!”
He added: “I was very young when I arrived and was lucky to find a dressing room full of great people who I'll never be able to thank enough. My journey would've been impossible without my teammates.
"Hope I’ve left a bit of a mark on each of you, just as I'll forever carry you in my heart.
“Finally, I want to express my eternal gratitude to @AFCAjax for the opportunity they gave me to come to Europe and thank all of the club executives, coaches and staff for their help on a daily basis. You’ve made me into one of you… Forever Ajacied!”
